Libyan oil company Tamoil to be main sponsor of Juventus
Italian club the best-earning in shirt advertising
Turin (pte033/30.03.2005/13:00) Italian footballing giants Juventus http://www.juventus.com have a new main sponsor. As Horizont Sport Business http://www.sportbusiness.horizont.net reports today, the Libyan oil company Tamoil http://www.tamoil.com is set to pay 240 million euros over the next ten years for its logo on the famous black and white jersey. Up to 2010, the Turin-based Serie A club will receive 22 million euros a year, and after that up to 2015, the figure will rise to 26 million euros. The sum is the highest for football shirt advertising in international football.
Last season, the Ghadafi-run company's logo only appeared on Juventus shirts in cup games. In league matches, Sky Sports was found on the Italian club's jerseys. This sponsorship deal worth 18.5 million euros a year made Juventus the best-earning club in shirt advertising in 2004. The Italian record holders also have lucrative contracts with other partners. The club receives 13 million euros annually from Nike due to the long-term sports equipment contract between the two. Pay-tv channel Sky also pays 65 million euros a year for the pay-TV license. Furthermore, the Berlusconi-run Mediaset has secured the terrestrial TV rights for the next three years in a deal worth 32 million euros. In addition, Juventus receive 10.3 million euros a year for international TV rights.
According to the latest "Jersey Report", Juventus are ahead of Bayern Munich, who get 17 million a year from their T-Com sponsorship deal. The Italian club is also far ahead of Real Madrid (Siemens: 14 million euros), Manchester United (Vodafone: 13 million euros) and the French champions Lyon, who get 12 million euros a year from their deal with LG/Renault Trucks.
