The international artist Margot Holzapfel presents her current body of work on the theme "3 Positions of the Women's Era" at Gallery Steiner in Vienna, with the official opening taking place at the gallery. She relies on the immediate force of expressive abstraction.

Wild. Female. Boundless. These three words define Holzapfel's new series. Her painting is intense, physical, and untamed. Radiant reds and pinks, electric blues, greens, oranges, and yellows collide with forceful black lines and explosive white gestures. Forms break open, overlap, and penetrate one another. Nothing seems willing to stand still. Her works do not depict femininity — they make it palpable.

Physicality appears not as a figure but as energy: in curves and openings, in eruptive gestures, in touches, tensions, and transgressions. Desire and resistance, vulnerability and strength, seduction and self‑assertion coexist simultaneously.

This is precisely where the dialogue with VALIE EXPORT emerges. Where EXPORT liberated the female body from its traditional role as an object of the gaze and transformed it into a self‑determined medium of artistic inquiry, Holzapfel translates these ideas into the language of painting. The body does not need to be shown — color becomes body, gesture becomes movement, painting becomes self‑assertion. The feminine may be loud. It may be erotic. It may provoke, seduce, contradict, and claim space.

Holzapfel's work understands feminism less as a slogan and more as lived freedom. Her paintings articulate the right to evade any fixed definition of womanhood. Painting itself becomes an attitude: sensual and defiant, passionate and unsettling, exotic and self‑confident. Wildness is not loss of control. Wildness is freedom.
