Vienna (pte021/21.06.2013/15:28) Vienna city center is set to become a largely forbidden zone for tourist buses.
City officials have developed a plan to limit the number of buses in district 1 to relieve congestion on the narrow streets and to keep the popular Stephansplatz free.
Traffic council spokeswoman for the Green Party Maria Vassilakou said buses in the narrow streets were problematic with up to 45 buses travelling to and from Stephansplatz daily between 9.00 and 14.00.
But she added that pubic service buses and tourist coaches with specific destinations like hotels would continue to drive through the city centre.
