Vienna (pte003/09.05.2013/11:52) Some 19 million Euros are being invested in renovating the traditional Steffl department store on Vienna's Kärtner Straße.

Over the next few years, the department store is to be gradually transformed into a luxury shopping centre. The works, which will see a new façade appear, is due to be completed by the end of 2014.

The standard of shopping in the city centre has been raised considerably with the Golden Quarter and other luxury temples.

Steffl-owner Hans Schmid said: "The golden triangle is important to us because it helps to raise the Vienna on the fashion-scene to a level where other cities have been for a long time."

The renovation is an attempt to make the whole space more open and the brands more exclusive.

The shopping centre has a yearly turnover figure of 100 million Euros. Every second shopper is a tourist.
