Vienna / Austria (pta056/25.11.2021/19:10 UTC+1) * Combined expertise between Frequentis as technology supplier and system integrator and Wien Energie as mobile virtual operator and IT service provider in the public sector
* Voice and video connection between Frequentis and Wien Energie successfully tested in first phase of cooperation
* Evaluation of mission-critical applications, such as interactive drone management and integration of control centre technology, in further project phases

On 25 November, the first voice and video connection between Frequentis and Wien Energie, Austria's largest energy provider, was successfully tested in a field trial to demonstrate mission-critical broadband transmission in the public sector. The Frequentis technology for mission-critical services (MCX) in combination with Wien Energie's virtual mobile network allows the cost-effective implementation of highly available push-to-talk and push-to-video services, which require special networks.

"With the successful integration of mission-critical applications into the Wien Energie IT infrastructure, we created the common basis for cooperation in the field of mission-critical applications in the public sector", explains Günter Graf, Vice President New Business Development at Frequentis. "This cooperation aims at evaluating applications in mission-critical environments based on innovative technologies available on the market and positioning them for use in the mission-critical public IT area of Wien Energie."

The technological basis is the Horizon 2020 EU project "BroadWay", in which Frequentis is leading the "BroadPort" consortium with 16 organisations from six countries. The Frequentis-led consortium is currently working on piloting a Europe-wide, mission-critical broadband communication network for police, rescue, firefighters, and other blue-light organisations.

More detailed information on Frequentis' solution for mission-critical broadband communication can be found on this website:

The BroadWay Project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and development programme under Grant Agreement No. 786912.
