On 8 September 2026, the POLYTEC GROUP and BOOXit OG celebrated the start of the industrial production of marketable BOOXit boxes with around 80 guests from politics, research, industry and the Austrian Armed Forces. Under the motto "A BOX FULL OF FUTURE", not only a product was presented at the POLYTEC site in Ebensee, Austria, but also a new generation of intelligent logistics solutions for military use and numerous industrial applications.

More than a box

The BOOXit-Box not only addresses a single use case but opens new possibilities for modern supply chains. As an intelligent, digital and reusable logistics solution, it combines sustainability, efficiency and transparency in a form that is unique to date. Through digital networking, IoT capabilities and sensor integration, it supports industrial and military applications. Originally, the BOOXit-Box was developed for industrial logistics processes. However, the developments of recent years have clearly shown how important resilient supply chains, security of supply and functioning defence logistics have become. Accordingly, great interest quickly arose from the defence sector. The Austrian Armed Forces recognised the potential of the intelligent reusable boxes at an early stage and accompanied the development with valuable impulses from practice.

Developing the future together

The BOOXit-Box is the result of a strong partnership: BOOXit developed the vision and the product, POLYTEC converted this into an industrial manufacturing solution and HAIDLMAIR, as a tool specialist, created the basis for scalable production. Universities, research institutions and technology partners contributed scientific expertise and technical know-how. The Austrian Armed Forces and industrial partners supplemented the development with valuable practical experience. This is how an innovative idea became an industrialised logistics solution.

Expertise, enjoyment and live production

In keeping with the production expertise of the POLYTEC GROUP, the event took place directly in production. After the welcoming words by POLYTEC CEO Markus Huemer and Upper Austrian Councilor of Economic Affairs Markus Achleitner, the focus was on the future of sustainable and resilient logistics. The professional kick-off was the key notes "Reusable as a way out" by FH-Prof. DI Dr. Walter Mayrhofer (FH Wien der WKW) and a lecture by Brigadier Rudolf Zauner (Federal Ministry of Defence) on the requirements of future military logistics. In the subsequent panel, DI Andreas Holzleitner, CTO BOOXit, Dr. Jens Oldenburg, Managing Director of the Stiftung Initiative Mehrweg, Brigadier Klaus Jäger, Head of the Army Logistics School, and Colonel Alfred Steingress, Commander of the 13th Panzergrenadier Battalion, discussed the ecological, economic and technological potential of intelligent reusable logistics solutions.

Accompanied by regional culinary creations and atmospheric live music, an inspiring framework for exchange and networking was created. The highlight was the live production of the first BOOXit boxes, where visitors were able to experience first-hand how an innovative idea is turned into a production-ready product. This made it impressively visible how visions become concrete solutions at POLYTEC.

Practical tests as the next steps

In the coming weeks, the Austrian Armed Forces will comprehensively test the BOOXit boxes in real application scenarios. At the same time, concrete product tests with industrial users will start to evaluate further possible applications.

Smart plastic applications as a strategic growth area

POLYTEC is expanding its Smart Plastic Applications division in a targeted manner outside the automotive business. The aim is to increase the share of the non-automotive business in Group sales to 30% and thus further diversify the customer and industry base. The focus is on applications in which POLYTEC can transfer its many years of material, development and industrialisation expertise to new markets. BOOXit is a key element of this strategy: The project combines plastics expertise and series production with digitalisation, circular economy and new fields of application – from industry and pharmaceuticals to defence and security-relevant logistics.
