Montana Aerospace: Montana Aerospace strengthens ESG initiatives with further ambitious solar energy project and ISO 14001 certification
Reinach (pta008/05.08.2025/08:30 UTC+2)
Asco Industries (Asco), a Montana Aerospace division, commissions its solar installation at the Belgium site and achieves ISO 14001 certification, advancing its commitment to sustainability and environmental management.
Asco made significant progress in its ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) strategy in the first half of the year. Following the receipt of the VOKA Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and successful ISO 14001 certification, Asco Belgium has now successfully commissioned its solar power system. The move into solar energy not only supports Asco's ESG goals, but also strengthens the Montana Aerospace Group's energy independence and long-term economic resilience by lowering operating costs and reducing exposure to energy market fluctuations.
"At Montana Aerospace we are fully committed to aligning our operations with the highest environmental standards while continuously investing in renewable energy and sustainable innovation across our value chain", says Vicky Welvaert, Group CHRO, Group Management and responsible for HR, communication and ESG. "With the successful implementation of several solar projects across various Montana Aerospace production sites, this new initiative further strengthens Asco Belgium's role as a responsible and innovative partner in the aerospace industry."
Solar energy project powers commitment to sustainable goals
As part of Asco's long-term sustainability goals, a new solar panel installation has been completed on the roofs of its Asco 4, Asco 4-bis, and Asco 8 facilities in Belgium. Spanning 2,274 square meters, the system comprises 940 solar panels, delivering a peak capacity of 463.2 kWp and is expected to generate approximately 407,000 kWh annually. This represents around 1,5% of Asco's total energy consumption and 2,5% of its electrical usage. As of today, the system is fully operational, with expansion plans already underway—pending necessary roof reinforcements at additional sites.
"This project marks another concrete step on our path toward greater sustainability. By expanding our use of renewable energy, we are not only contributing to climate protection, but also reducing our dependence on external energy sources at our Belgian site, lowering long-term energy costs, and thereby strengthening the competitiveness and future viability of our production.", adds Jérôme Morhet, CEO of Asco Industries.
Asco highlights ESG commitment with ISO 14001 and VOKA Charter
Asco's solar initiative is part of its broader environmental strategy, further reinforced by the recent VOKA Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship and ISO 14001 certification.
ISO 14001 is the internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems (EMS), providing a framework for continuous improvement of environmental performance — through impact reduction, process optimization, and responsible operations. The Belgian site was certified in 2023, with certification extended to the entire Asco Group as of December 2024.
The VOKA Charter, an initiative of the Flemish Chamber of Commerce, helps companies systematically integrate sustainable practices into their operations.
Asco pursued these certifications in response to client requirements and as part of its growing commitment to ESG principles — embedding sustainability into its operations through waste reduction, resource efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
A long-term investment for a greener future in Aerospace
In the future Asco will have the technical possibility, after replacing roof insulation and roof coverages, to install approximately 6,000 more panels with an estimated energy yield per year of 2,600,000 kWh/year.
With its ESG-focused initiatives, Asco is reaffirming its role as a responsible and innovative aerospace partner within Montana Aerospace. The various solar energy projects throughout the divisions and ISO 14001 certification are key steps toward more sustainable operations, increased energy independence, and long-term economic efficiency, while also reinforcing accountability across the supply chain.
These efforts reflect the commitment to sustainability of Montana Aerospace and enhance the company's overall ESG performance. By investing in renewable energy and environmental certification, the group strengthens its competitive position, reduces environmental risks, and creates long-term value for customers and partners across the global aerospace industry.
