SPONK Brings Explosive Urban Energy to SWISSARTEXPO 2025

From August 20 to 24, 2025, the vibrant, fearless works of graffiti artist Dan Geffert – better known as SPONK – will electrify Zurich's Main Station at SWISSARTEXPO 2025. Blurring the lines between fine art and urban culture, SPONK's dynamic creations fuse precision with raw emotion, inviting viewers into a colorful cosmos where spray paint meets storytelling.
Born in 1989 in Bochum and raised in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, SPONK discovered his passion for art at an early age. His love of drawing evolved into a deep commitment to graffiti when he picked up his first spray can in 2005. Since turning professional in 2012, he has created over 1,000 works, ranging from intimate acrylic paintings to monumental murals – including North Rhine-Westphalia's largest solo artwork, an 800 m² masterpiece. His international portfolio includes striking projects in Miami, Beijing, and Chongqing, with his art even featured on Chinese national television.
SPONK's oeuvre is a thrilling interplay of streetwise grit and meticulous technique. Working across media including graffiti, airbrush, and photography, he brings each piece to life through a rigorous process of digital planning, precision masking, and application of high-quality lacquers on aluminum dibond. This commitment to craft results in works that dazzle with chromatic intensity, subtle gradients, and unmistakable stylistic identity. SPONK's art has evolved from abstract lettering to a signature visual language rich in character, movement, and meaning.
Thematically, his works radiate a fascination with nature, mythology, and the expressive potential of the human and animal form. His latest piece "Raptor" (128 x 180 cm, 2025, graffiti, airbrush & acrylic on Alu-Dibond) showcases a majestic bird of prey in arresting detail – its piercing gaze and luminous plumage invoking themes of vigilance, survival, and transcendence. Other featured pieces – such as "Geometric Skull No.65" or "Pink Octopus No.78" – balance whimsy with depth, infusing pop iconography with philosophical undertones. Each composition is a bold statement, not only visually captivating but also emotionally charged.
SPONK's unique blend of urban culture, high craftsmanship, and global storytelling makes him one of the most compelling contemporary graffiti voices today.
