Frequentis AG: Qatar's air traffic controllers gain improved situational awareness through FREQUENTIS and Bayanat collaboration
Vienna, Austria (pta014/17.12.2025/10:18 UTC+1)
- A next-generation integrated display brings weather, aerodrome, runway, and support systems together on one screen – one source of truth
- Controllers benefit from improved situational awareness, simplified workflows, and faster decision-making
- The project advances QCAA's vision for a fully connected, future-proof OneATM ecosystem while marking another milestone in the 20-year Bayanat–Frequentis partnership
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) has awarded Bayanat Engineering Qatar the delivery of a state-of-the-art display system provided by Frequentis; an advanced platform that transforms how air traffic controllers see, interpret, and manage the nation's airspace.
The new system unifies every critical data point, providing air traffic controllers with a unified operational picture, integrating weather, aerodrome, runway, and support information into a single, harmonised interface. This will significantly enhance situational awareness, safety, and operational efficiency at Qatar's air traffic control centres and airports. This will empower controllers with faster, clearer decision-making as Qatar's aviation sector continues to grow.
As prime contractor, Bayanat Engineering Qatar, will lead the full delivery, integration, and commission of the system, leveraging Frequentis' expertise and proven air traffic management (ATM) solutions. Frequentis has a partnership with Bayanat Engineering Qatar spanning more than 20 years and a long-standing relationship with QCAA, having delivered systems such as voice communication, electronic flight strips, and aeronautical information management. This project adds a new layer of intelligence and connectivity to Qatar's air traffic management landscape—advancing the country toward a seamless OneATM ecosystem.
"We are honoured by QCAA's continued trust," said Hasan Ezzeddine, Managing Partner at Bayanat Engineering Qatar. "This project reflects our commitment to future-driven ATM innovations and reinforces our strategic partnership with Frequentis. Together, we are building the next generation of connected, efficient, and resilient air traffic operations for the State of Qatar."
The solution includes fully redundant Frequentis smartTOOLS, an integrated information and control system, deployed across 78 working positions covering the area control centre, approach centre, Hamad and Doha International Airport ATC Towers, and contingency operations. A dedicated test environment provides QCAA with a safe space to test and validate new functions and data sets without impacting ongoing operations.
"We are delighted to deepen our collaboration with QCAA through our strong partnership with Bayanat Engineering Qatar," says Fawaz Baroud, Managing Director of Frequentis Middle East. This system brings every operational element together and will empower QCAA's controllers with a unified operational view and ensure seamless integration of data across all ATM environments. This reflects our shared commitment to innovation, safety, and the future of air traffic management in Qatar."
With this milestone, Qatar's air traffic management enters a new phase; more connected, more intelligent, and ready for the future of flight.
