The POLYTEC GROUP is acquiring the composites business of film manufacturer Profol and expanding its product portfolio in lightweight construction with this strategic investment in UD tape and organosheet technology. POLYTEC is an international developer and producer of high-quality plastic solutions for the automotive industry and, increasingly, for industries outside this sector. Based in Austria and employing around 3,000 people, the international company is expanding its value creation depth in a promising market segment with the integration of these technologies.
The new technologies enable the production of high-performance fibre composite semi-finished products that are used in plastic products with high strength requirements – both for vehicles and for structural components in other industries. POLYTEC already uses this material successfully and therefore has extensive experience in its processing and application. Given its innovative potential and strong synergy with POLYTEC's manufacturing and product expertise, its integration represents a forward-looking addition to the company's value chain. POLYTEC is thus responding to the growing demand for lightweight construction concepts that aim to further improve the efficiency and sustainability of products.
UD tapes offer excellent mechanical properties. They have very high tensile strength and stiffness in the fibre direction, enabling targeted reinforcement of components while keeping weight low. At the same time, the acquired technology allows the production of organo sheets in a wide variety of material combinations. When combined with thermoplastic matrices, they create components that are both lightweight and fully recyclable. This contributes to the circular economy and meets future sustainability requirements.
"With this investment and the acquisition of Profol's composites activities, we are strengthening our innovative power and opening up new markets in the field of sustainable mobility and lightweight construction," explains Martin Resch, COO of the POLYTEC GROUP.
Profol, internationally renowned as a manufacturer of innovative polypropylene films, will focus even more strongly on its core business in future by selling its composites division: the development and production of high-quality film solutions for a wide range of applications. With this expansion, the POLYTEC GROUP is underlining its role as a pioneer in innovative material solutions and sustainable technologies that meet the requirements of the automotive industry and other sectors.
