NTL trialling 18 mbps broadband

British telecoms operator NTL http://www.ntl.com has piloted a new technology that offers maximum broadband download speeds of 18mbps. As CNet http://news.com.com reports, such rates are only possible over short distances, but NTL says that 95 per cent of homes are within one kilometre of its high-speed fibre network. This mean that ADSL2+, a faster version of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line technology, should run at high speeds over the copper wire that runs between NTL's roadside cabinets and individual homes.
