German Tech Holding GmbH & Co. KGaA: Investment opportunity in Zirnostics

Frankfurt am Main (pta024/22.10.2026/19:03 UTC+2)

  • Supplementary information and background on the investment opportunity in Zirnostics GmbH
  • Description of Zirnostics by First Berlin Equity Research

Frankfurt/Main, 22 October 2026 – German Tech Holding (GTH) reports on supplementary aspects of and background to the investment opportunity in Zirnostics GmbH presented on 7 October 2026.

The market addressed by Zirnostics with its PSMA PET/CT tracer is currently defined by two short-lived isotopes: gallium-68, with a half-life of approximately 68 minutes, and fluorine-18, with a half-life of approximately 110 minutes. The short half-life of these isotopes represents a significant limitation, as it restricts the window for imaging to approximately one hour after administration. Nevertheless, all currently approved preparations are based on these two isotopes and together generated revenues of just under 2 billion US dollars in 2025.

The limiting factor is therefore not targeting, but time. Because imaging with gallium-68- and fluorine-18-based PSMA PET/CT tracers must take place shortly after injection, a tracer (radiolabelled substance for medical imaging) that has not bound to tumor tissue has only very limited opportunity to be cleared from the blood and surrounding tissue. With legacy tracers, the detection of small recurrent foci and metastases, which can be decisive for further therapy planning and its success, is particularly challenging. Extending the interval between administration of the tracer and imaging addresses this problem and considerably improves detection. In the zirconium-89 studies, mean tracer uptake in suspicious lesions rose from 5.1 at one hour to 11.6 at 24 hours and 13.5 at 48 hours, with tumor-to-background contrast increasing significantly between the time points. In a study with 23 patients, only one of 36 lesions was visible on the PSMA PET/CT scan after one hour. The clinical potential of long-lived PSMA tracers is already supported by further studies. For example, a prospective study with a copper-64-based tracer showed a considerably higher positivity rate than a conventional gallium-68 preparation (78 % versus 36 %).

This copper-64-based tracer was developed by Clarity Pharmaceuticals, a challenger to the legacy providers that has been listed in Australia since 2021. Copper-64-SAR-bisPSMA uses a half-life of 12.7 hours to enable next-day imaging. The programme is in Phase III of several registrational trials, i.e. still prior to marketing authorization by the authorities. Clarity's market capitalization naturally reflects its advanced stage of development.

Zirnostics likewise harnesses the potential of long-lived PSMA tracers to further improve prostate cancer diagnostics. With a half-life of 78.4 hours, zirconium-89 permits imaging even after three to seven days and thus offers a considerably longer imaging window than copper-64 with a half-life of only 12.7 hours. The published clinical data are consistent with the mechanism: positivity rates of 72–79 % in patients whose conventional PSMA PET/CT was negative or inconclusive, including 72.3 % at a tumor marker (prostate-specific antigen, PSA) level of ≤ 0.2 ng/ml – a setting in which conventional imaging struggles to localize recurrent disease. Among the patients subsequently treated with imaging-guided radiotherapy in the 2026 study, 80 % achieved a PSA reduction of at least 50 %.

With the use of the zirconium-89-labelled tracer developed by Zirnostics compared with conventional tracers, the tumor contrast in imaging required for the detectability of tumor cells increases by a factor of up to 100.

GTH pursues opportunities in the fields of artificial intelligence and life sciences/biotech. Cognicare AI, a spin-off from GTH's investment in the company builder Softmax AI, addresses the structurally growing market for senior care facilities with highly sought-after AI applications. In the field of life science, GTH is examining an investment opportunity in Zirnostics GmbH that has presented itself and has signed a term sheet in this regard. Zirnostics is preparing a clinical trial for the approval of its disruptive tracer for PSMA-PET/CT imaging in prostate cancer, which is up to 100-fold superior to legacy tracers in terms of tumor-to-background contrast and has already been successfully clinically tested for years in several hundred patients.
