Advanced surface treatment lines and automation software reinforce the company's commitment to deep vertical integration and future-ready manufacturing
Montana Aerospace division Universal Alloy Corporation Vietnam (UAC Vietnam) has recently taken three major self-designed production lines into series production: a fully automated Zn-Ni Plating Line, a newly engineered Passivation Line, and a proprietary OEE Automation System. These projects were developed, built, and implemented entirely by UAC Vietnam's internal engineering and maintenance teams, enabling deeper vertical integration and full process control.
"Deep vertical integration is part of our DNA," says Kai Arndt, Co-CEO of Montana Aerospace. "The in-house development of the new systems at our site in Vietnam is a prime example of our innovative strength and engineering expertise. It highlights our ongoing efforts to build competencies and advance our automation strategy.
Our global one-stop-shop concept makes us a strong and reliable partner for our customers.
Zn-Ni Plating Line – Corrosion Protection
The new Zinc-Nickel Plating Line provides high-level corrosion for precision components made from steel or copper, which are used in aircraft assembly. Developed entirely in-house and now fully automated, the line was recently qualified and approved for serial production.
Passivation Line – Surface Treatment for Stainless Steel and Titanium
Building on the success of the plating project, UAC Vietnam also designed and installed a custom passivation line to enhance corrosion resistance for stainless steel components. The process strengthens corrosion resistance and improves overall durability and aesthetics. Like the plating line, it was fully developed and constructed by UAC staff and meets all performance and environmental standards.
Automation with Ownership: OEE System
UAC Vietnam's engineering team has developed a fully customized OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) software system, granting the company full ownership of its automation technology. In addition, the new surface treatment systems are seamlessly integrated with UAC Vietnam wastewater treatment infrastructure. Waste is efficiently processed through a dedicated transfer station system, ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations.
"Our goal was to develop a software and self-developed hardware system that meets all our specific requirements down to the smallest detail," explains Hoa Nguyen, Maintenance and Special Projects Manager at UAC Vietnam. "Instead of purchasing a solution, we created a tailored system that gives us full control and is flexibly scalable. This independence enables us to continuously improve our processes. Our automation platform also actively manages key production metrics."
Built for the Future of Aerospace Manufacturing
Each of these projects represents a clear step toward the future of aerospace production — a future that is smarter, more autonomous, and more efficient. By investing in self-developed technologies, automation, and engineering expertise, Montana Aerospace ensures it can meet both current and future demands of a rapidly evolving industry — all based on the highest standards of quality and safety. A key success factor lies in the close collaboration and integration of all divisions within the group. Through its one-stop-shop concept, Montana Aerospace combines vertical integration, technical know-how, and maximum production flexibility across sites and business units — directly benefiting customers around the globe.
