Altech Advanced Materials AG: ALTECH ENTERS INTO STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH FRAUNHOFER INSTITUTE IKTS

Heidelberg (pta017/05.07.2022/11:40 UTC+2)

  • The lithium-ion battery test and qualification process for Altech's anode material Silumina Anodes to be undertaken by Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS
  • Cooperation enables rapid product qualification of Silumina Anodes
  • Strategic partnership with IKTS to support accelerated market entry

Altech Advanced Materials AG (AAM / the Company) (FRA: AMA1) announces that Altech Industries Germany GmbH (AIG), the 25% AAM / 75% Altech Chemicals joint venture for the Silumina Anodes project, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS ("IKTS"), Dresden, a world leader in advanced ceramics. The goal of the collaboration is to accelerate the testing and qualification process for Silumina Anodes and to independently verify the long-term performance of Altech's Silumina Anodes anode material in various battery applications. Silumina Anodes is a novel anode material for lithium-ion batteries that leads to a 30% increase in performance and a corresponding increase in battery life.

IKTS, through its extensive lithium-ion battery research and partner network, is able to perform extensive performance testing on various battery types and applications. These documented tests support the qualification process of the Silumina Anodes with potential customers, which in turn should lead to accelerated future use of the material in specific e-mobility applications. IKTS has three institute branches in Dresden and Hermsdorf (Thuringia), which together form the largest ceramics research institute in Europe and is considered one of the world's leading research centers for battery materials.

Silumina Anodes are to be produced in the battery coating plant of AIG, which is to be built in Schwarze Pumpe (Saxony) with an annual capacity of 10,000 tons. To accelerate development, the company is currently building a pilot plant right next to the future factory in order to provide battery manufacturers with appropriate material for testing and qualification purposes at an early stage.
