Press Release

SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES reports key financial figures (preliminary and unaudited) for the business year 2021 as well as for the 1st quarter 2022

Kahl am Main, June 03, 2022 - SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES reports preliminary key financial figures (unaudited) for the business year 2021. Revenues range from € 64 to 68 million (previous year: € 29.9 million) with an EBIT of € -12 to -16 million (previous year: € -39 million). Order intake of €111.5 million was achieved in fiscal 2021 (previous year: € 83.9 million). The order backlog as of December 31, 2021 was €122.1 million (previous year: €76.5 million). The development of the COVID 19 pandemic in the first half of 2021 and partially impaired supply chains, particularly in the second half of 2021, made it difficult to achieve a stronger recovery in sales compared with fiscal 2020.

Fiscal 2021 was still clearly impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic. Overall, against this background, we consider the development of order intake and operating business in fiscal year 2021 to be encouraging. Further agreements were concluded for the development and delivery of new production equipment for the manufacturing of thin-film solar modules according to the CIGS and also the CdTe technology. SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China National Building Materials (CNBM) Group, Beijing, in June 2021 in the course of the solar trade fair SNEC in Shanghai. The aim is to expand the existing, successful and long-standing cooperation to the development and supply of production equipment for CdTe (cadmium telluride) thin-film solar technology.

In October 2021, further significant orders were placed for the Solar segment. Of particular note is the signing of contracts for thin-film solar module production equipment with China Triumph International Engineering Co Ltd (CTIEC), Shanghai, China, a subsidiary of CNBM. The contract award covers the supply of production equipment for manufacturing sites for the production of both CdTe and CIGS thin-film solar modules by means of cathode sputtering, evaporation and sublimation.

SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES has already been working intensively on the introduction of its processes and equipment into new market segments for several years. The focus is on the vacuum sputtering machines for the finishing of surfaces as well as on the various wet-chemical cleaning machines for applications in the medical technology and consumer goods sectors. The Life Science segment is developing very positively with orders placed in 2021 for decorative coatings and for medical technology. Several contracts were signed for MEDLINE production lines for cleaning and coating contact lenses and POLYCOATER and DECOLINE II lines for finishing decorative products.

For the 1st quarter 2022 SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES reports overall improved preliminary key financial figures. Accordingly, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES' sales of € 21.4 million in the 1st quarter of 2022 were above the comparative prior-year figure of € 14.6 million. Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were positive at € 0.1 million (previous year:
€ -3.3 million). Order intake in the 1st quarter of 2022 reached a volume of €6.5 million. (previous year: €7.9 million).

Dr. Stefan Rinck, CEO SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES: "After the end of the reporting period a pre-contractual agreement was reached with a major European energy supplier for the delivery of production equipment for the manufacture of heterojunction (HJT) solar cells. The total volume of the deliveries is in the lower double-digit million € range." Dr. Stefan Rinck continues: "The European energy supplier is planning the construction of a new factory for solar cells with a capacity of several gigawatts and intends to use the wet-chemical equipment of SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES for this purpose".
