Rosenbauer International AG: Provisional Figures 2021

Rosenbauer Group Sees Lower Revenues in Pandemic-Year 2021

Leonding (pta006/18.02.2022/07:00 UTC+1)

  • Supply chain disruption and delayed vehicle handovers check year-end rally; revenues amount to € 975.0 million
  • EBIT falls to € 34.0 million as a result of lower operating performance
  • Strong incoming orders return to pre-crisis levels at € 1,064.3 million

EBIT€ million57.934.0
EBT€ million51.527.5
Order intake€ million1,007.71,064.3

According to provisional figures, the Rosenbauer Group generated revenues of € 975.0 million in 2021 (2020: € 1,044.2 million). This decrease was caused by delayed vehicle handovers that worsened due to the additional lockdown in Austria in December last year and have resulted in revenues shifting to the first quarter of 2022. Further factors included ongoing disruption in production and material price increases as a result of supply chain issues. Staff costs were slightly higher than the previous year; however, the cost of materials and the work in progress were lower year-on-year. As a result of the lower operating performance at the end of the year, EBIT amounted to € 34.0 million (2020: € 57.9 million). The EBIT margin was 3.5%.

In 2021, the global firefighting industry is expected to have moved sideways in an economic environment that was positive once more. In particular, the supply of materials and parts to the industry worsened appreciably as a result of the global economy coming to life with surprising speed from the middle of the year. This held back the important year-end rally and the Rosenbauer Group had to post lower revenues in all sales regions, with the exception of the NOMA area and Preventive Fire Protection segments.

The financial result was stable with € 6.5 million compared to the previous year. Earnings before taxes (EBT) therefore amounted to € 27.5 million (2020: € 51.5 million).

Orders

In the past year, the Rosenbauer Group reported strong incoming orders of € 1,064.3 million, which represented a return to pre-crisis levels (2020: € 1,007.7 million). This saw an increase for five out of six sales regions. For example, with four vehicles for the Basel-Stadt fire department, the CEEU area received the first fleet order for the "Revolutionary Technology" (RT), the battery-electric firefighting vehicle from Rosenbauer. At € 1,145.2 million as of December 31, 2021 (2020: € 1,072.1 million), the order backlog was above consolidated annual revenue.

Based on this solid order book, Rosenbauer’s Executive Board expects revenues of over € 1 billion for 2022. Despite of the continuing disruptions of the supply chain and uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, EBIT margin should reach the level of the previous year.

The above figures are based on advance calculations in accordance with IFRS. The final figures for 2021 will be published on April 8, 2022.
