NorCom Information Technology GmbH & Co. KGaA: NorCom expands automotive KI portfolio in the national funding project "KIARA"

München (pta018/08.07.2021/11:06 UTC+2) NorCom has received funding approval for the next three years for the "KIARA" project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. For the project, NorCom is using artificial intelligence (AI) to investigate the aging of exhaust gas aftertreatment systems from fleet measurement data. The expected scope of the project for NorCom is in the low seven-digit range. NorCom's consortium partners are Umicore, AVL Ger-many, AVL Schrick and TU Darmstadt (in cooperation with IVD). The project will start in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

KIARA stands for "Artificial Intelligence for the Aging Identi-fication of Real Applications of Exhaust Gas Catalysts" and is part of the funding program "New Vehicle and System Technologies - Artificial Intelligence as Key Technology for the Vehicle of the Future", which is part of the Federal Government's "Artificial Intelligence Strategy" campaign supported.

The content of the project is the development and application of AI methods for mapping the aging behavior of exhaust gas components. The aim is to derive optimization potentials as well as targeted measures to comply with legislative framework conditions. At the same time, possibilities for the sustainable and cost-efficient use of resources - in the specific application the minimization of precious metal catalyst materials used - in the production of exhaust gas aftertreatment systems are to be examined.

"As part of the KIARA project, we can contribute and expand our experience and expertise in the field of applied AI for automotive applications," comments Dr. Tobias Abthoff, Managing Director of NorCom, the project award. "We are very pleased to be accepted into the consortium and to work with our partners with a wide range of specialist skills. With KIARA, NorCom can translate further practical challenges in the context of data management and analysis into practical solutions. This further enhances our product and enables us to simplify and accelerate the go-live of AI for similar problems. In addition, our involvement in the thematically closely related area of "digital twinning" results in valuable synergy effects. "
