Vienna (pta013/23.12.2020/11:30 UTC+1) * ASECNA, the air traffic control agency for 17 countries in Africa, ordered Aeronautical Message Handling Systems (AMHS, e.g. for flight plans and weather data) for 8 countries
* Latest technology for the transmission and processing of flight messages

ASECNA, the Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation in Africa and Madagascar, has selected Frequentis' AMHS to improve message handling in eight African countries. Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Comoros, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau will benefit from the most advanced upgrade of their existing legacy AFTN (aeronautical fixed telecom network) messaging service with an innovative, fully integrated messaging technology, which allows the harmonised operation of all messaging services in one application.

In this project, ASECNA takes over the central procurement of the AMHS infrastructure for its member countries, including the delivery of eight complete and independent systems.

"We are pleased to be adding ASECNA to our list of AMHS references, bringing state-of-the-art airspace communications to the African region. This important infrastructure contract confirms the market leadership of the Frequentis Group in this field," says Frequentis CEO Norbert Haslacher.

AMHS systems from Frequentis are already in operation in about 90 countries worldwide. The relevant know-how is bundled in the Frequentis Comsoft subsidiary based in Karlsruhe, Germany. Frequentis Comsoft has the most integrated and mature AFTN / AMHS solution currently available on the market.

With the AMHS system, air messages are transmitted and processed based on the standard for air-ground-ground communication of the International Civil Aviation Organisation ICAO (part of the United Nations). These "Notices-to-Airmen" (NOTAMs) contain, for example, flight plans or meteorological data.
