New Harry Potter audiobook to last over 26 hours

Publisher Random House beefs up security

New York (pte043/06.06.2003/15:11) The audiobook version of J.K. Rowling's newest Harry Potter novel "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" will take up a total of 26 and a half hours of audio tape, as reported by the Wall Street Journal today.

The audiobook, published by Bertelsmann subsidiary Random House http://www.randomhouse.com , will appear on the US market on 21 June. The young magician's latest adventures will take up no fewer than 17 cassettes or 23 CDs. The book itself, 896 pages long and published by Scholastic Inc in the USA and Bloombury PLC in London, will also be available the same day.

In the months preceding the appearance of the new Harry Potter tale, Random House has placed great emphasis on security. The employees of the publishing house will undergo elaborate security checks, similar to those carried out at airports, as they are screened for CDs and cassettes. They must also sign a special security declaration. The ready-to-be-sold audiobooks will be stored in safes and
guarded by security personnel.

The German version of the fifth Harry Potter book will be brought out by Carlsen publishers http://www.carlsen.de on 8 November. The German audiobook, read by Rufus Beck, will be produced by Hoerverlag http://www.hoerverlag.de .
