Worldwide (pts009/18.01.2016/08:50) In-depth understanding of the impact of all current trends on the Future of Work to help HR, OD and Business Leaders to design for success. OTM's next webinar: Tuesday 26th January 2016; 5pm CET / 4pm UTC / 11am EST / 8am PST

We are all keenly aware that today's businesses are constantly challenged by many dynamic, local and global forces. Consider some of these: climate change, increasing customer expectations, greater consumer choice, big data, technology advancements, robotics, stronger competition, lightning speed market disruption, the war for talent, outsourcing and contract roles, the list goes on!

Adding to this, people's needs and wants shift and morph with each generation. Whilst some needs & wants stay the same, some progress. In today's world, greater work flexibility, virtual working, alternative work spaces, changing psychological contracts between employer and employee, reconfigurable work and structures all play a part pointing towards something quite different to what we experienced over the last few generations. To quote Dr. Frey in the recent Future of Work supplement to the UK's Sunday Times: "Our parents had careers, we have jobs, and tomorrow's youth will have gigs."

Ask anyone, and most will tell you there is a need for real change and real action.

Yes, we all have a lot of different initiatives to improve mobility and flexibility within our organizations. We have new technologies enabling people to collaborate more effectively. But we often still find:

Organizations are designing workplaces which do not fulfill the requirements of employees and clients well enough Technologies are not used properly to improve collaboration.

Managers are losing social contact with their employees in virtual working environments.

New office space continues to be used in an old-fashioned way, rather than enabling mobility and flexibility in a more imaginative way.
