Vienna (pta011/25.08.2017/09:00 UTC+2) Take-over of Reetz clay block plant in Brandenburg, Germany
- Expansion of regional presence in brick business in Germany and Poland
- Insulation-filled bricks to be firmly established as a future-oriented product group

As of September 1, 2017, Wienerberger AG takes over the Reetz clay block plant from Röben Klinkerwerke GmbH in Germany. The plant has about 45 employees and is located in the German State of Brandenburg approx. 100 kilometers south-east of Berlin. It produces high-quality bricks filled with mineral wool as well as precision-ground and traditional clay blocks. The plant has an annual production capacity of 190 million NF (standard format for bricks), which corresponds to about 4,600 single-family houses. The main markets supplied by the plant are regions in the eastern part of Germany and in the west of Poland.

Heimo Scheuch, Chief Executive Officer of Wienerberger AG, states the reasons for the acquisition: "Germany and Poland are among the largest brick markets in Europe and two of the largest markets of the Wienerberger Group. The take-over of the Reetz clay block plant is a consistent step enabling us to expand our geographic presence in Germany. With its proximity to Poland, a growing market to which a large proportion of the blocks is exported, we are strengthening our business in a region of great interest for us." He also adds further considerations: "In recent years, we have observed a rising trend toward high-quality construction both in the single-family-home segment and in multi-story residential buildings. With its bricks filled with mineral wool, Wienerberger offers a building material that ideally meets these requirements and is very well accepted by the market. The acquisition of Reetz, therefore, is in line with our strategy to further increase our production capacities for premium bricks."

Currently, Wienerberger produces clay blocks, facing bricks and roof tiles as well as clay pavers and ceramic facade slabs at 18 production sites in Germany. These products are sold under the Poroton (wall), Koramic (roof), Terca and Argeton (façade), Penter (clay pavers) and Kamtec (chimney systems) brands. For the time being, Wienerberger employs a labor force of about 1,450 employees in the brick segment in Germany. The Reetz plant, strengthens Wienerberger's business in Germany and Poland. It ideally complements the geographic presence of the company's brick activities in Germany and will quickly be integrated into the existing Wienerberger plant network.

The take-over is part of Wienerberger's funds allocated for growth and portfolio optimization and fully in line with investment criteria. It will be earnings accretive with immediate effect. It has been agreed with the owners not to disclose the purchase price of the plant.
