Successful Commissioning of AMAG's Hot Rolling Mill

Ranshofen (pts033/09.09.2014/18:00) * Most significant milestone achieved in 200-million-euro expansion program
* Additional market potential opened up by new production dimensions
* Creation of 200 new jobs

Today AMAG successfully commissioned its new hot rolling mill in Ranshofen, thus achieving the most significant milestone in the large-scale EUR 220 million investment project on schedule. Through this expansion, the company can increase its capacity for the production of aluminium plates and hot-rolled sheets by 50%. At the same time, the range of products will be extended to include larger dimensions, and greater emphasis will be placed on high-strength special products. For example, AMAG is going to offer rolled products with a maximum width of 2,300 mm and plate with a maximum thickness of 150 mm. The new products can be applied in the aerospace industry, in transportation and mechanical engineering, especially in wind power plants, which are AMAG's key growth sectors.

"Today we successfully put into operation the hot rolling mill and produced the first aluminium plate, thus achieving the most important goal of our project. AMAG is developing into a prime location of the European aluminium industry that can tap additional market potential with its new products," said Helmut Wieser, Chairman of the Management Board of AMAG Austria Metall AG.

The remaining subprojects of the large-scale investment project being implemented at the Ranshofen location are also right on schedule. The plate production center has already been started up. The expansion of the rolling slab casthouse and the related expansion of the recycling center will be completed on schedule in the first quarter of 2015. This will allow AMAG to continue its growth path with an average recycling rate of 75-80%, a high ecological standard that AMAG intends to maintain.

These measures will provide important impetus to the economy and labor market in the environment of the company and especially in the Innviertel region. The new plant will create 200 new jobs in the medium term. Moreover, a number of companies in the environment of AMAG will benefit from the extensive investments made.
